Elite Welding & Fabrication: The Rockwall Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Elite-compatible welding and fabrication parts for Rockwall homeowners, with most drive and estate gate repairs completed in a single visit. An installed weld repair or fabrication job on an Elite gate in Rockwall typically runs $275 to $650 depending on the part, the extent of the damage, and whether we’re rebuilding an existing piece or fabricating a new one. The call usually starts the same way: the gate sags, a hinge tears loose, or a weld cracks after years of Texas heat and wind, and the owner wants to know if it can be saved before it gets worse.

Victor Salinas has been looking at busted gate welds around Rockwall County for close to three decades. Most of what we see is repairable. Some of it is not. Either way, you’ll get a straight answer and a written price before a single bolt is touched.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gates run on a range of opener and frame configurations, and the welding and fabrication work we do applies across the board: SL3000 and SL1000 slide operators, the CSW200 swing arms, and the older Mirage and Phantom series that are still hanging on across Rockwall. We also fabricate for the gate leaf itself, the hinge posts, and any custom bracket work those systems need.
The compatibility gotcha with Elite is the mounting plate. Elite’s heavier slide operators use a steel base plate with a specific bolt pattern, and if a weld repair changes that plate’s position by even a quarter inch, the chain binds and the operator burns through limit switches. We match the plate to the operator series, not just to the gate. On older Elite units, the original brackets were mild steel that rusts from the inside out. A quality aftermarket bracket in the same gauge, properly primed and painted, will typically outlast the original. If your operator still has its model label, that’s the fastest way for us to pull the right spec. If the label is gone, we measure the plate and match it to the series by the bolt spacing. We state plainly that Ironworks Gate Co. is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite. What we are is trained on their equipment, and we know where the steel fails.
Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. That sag is almost always a hinge weld that has stretched or cracked at the post. The weld itself may still look intact from the outside. The metal gave way underneath it. Left alone, the gate starts dragging and the opener works harder until the board gives out.
- A creak or groan that gets worse when the gate is halfway open. Welds around the hinge barrel flex under load. A cracked weld here sounds like metal complaining. It gets louder in cold weather, which Rockwall gets enough of for owners to notice every winter.
- Rust bleeding from a welded joint. Water gets into a pinhole in the weld, sits inside the tubing, and rusts outward. By the time you see the stain on the outside, the inside has been losing thickness for a season or two.
- The operator mounting bracket looks loose but the bolts are tight. That means the weld behind the bracket has fractured. The bolts are holding to a plate that is no longer fully attached to the post. This is the failure that destroys operators, because the motor keeps pulling against a plate that shifts a little more each cycle.
- The gate jerks or hesitates at a specific point in its travel. A cracked weld on a slide gate’s guide track creates a catch point. The gate slows, the chain pulls harder, and the operator’s force setting tries to compensate. It is not a tuning issue on the board. It is a metal problem on the rail.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For Rockwall homeowners, a welded hinge repair or bracket rebuild on an Elite gate typically runs $275 to $450 installed. A full fabrication job, like cutting out a rusted gate frame section and welding in new steel, runs $450 to $650 depending on how much of the original structure has to be replaced. If the operator plate needs to be cut off and a new one fabricated to exact Elite specs, that lands at the top of the range.
Every quote includes the steel, the welding, grinding the repair smooth, and priming and painting so the fix does not start rusting in the first year. We use the same gauge steel as the original or one step heavier when the owner wants it. The price is settled before work starts. There is no surprise line item for “additional fabrication” after the fact. The work is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise. If the weld fails or the gate does not ride true, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
What an owner can safely check without a welder: whether the gate is visibly sagging, where the rust is bleeding from, and whether the brackets look seated against the post. Those observations help us quote the job over the phone. What we do not recommend is pulling out a grinder and trying to re-weld an Elite gate frame yourself. The gate leaf on a double drive can weigh 400 pounds or more. A hinge weld that lets go while the gate is propped up can injure someone badly, and a weld that holds for a month and then cracks at the wrong moment is worse than the original problem. If the gate in question is on a slope, on a double-leaf system, or carrying an operator, that is work for a trained hand. Call (936) 715-3043 and we will come look at it. The estimate is free.
FAQs
A properly prepped and painted weld on an Elite gate in Rockwall typically lasts 15 to 20 years, but the original factory welds on many units fail sooner because the unsealed backside of the joint rusts from trapped moisture. Our repairs outlast the originals because we grind to clean steel and seal both sides.
Most hinge and bracket welds can be re-welded in place if the surrounding steel is still sound. Replacement only becomes necessary when the metal around the weld has thinned past safe thickness, which we check with a straight edge and a thickness reading before making the call. Call (936) 715-3043 for an honest assessment and a free estimate.
A single hinge or bracket weld repair on an Elite gate is typically completed in one visit, usually within two to three hours. Full frame fabrication may take a half day depending on the extent of the work and how much has to be cut out first.
We stock common fabrication steel, hinge barrel stock, and mounting plate material on our trucks, so most Elite welding repairs in Rockwall are completed same-day without a second trip. If the job calls for a specific Elite OEM bracket that we don’t carry, we tell you before any work begins and give you a timeframe. We also service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so if your opener setup spans multiple brands, we can handle all of it in one appointment.
If your Elite gate is sagging, groaning, or pulling loose from its post, call Ironworks Gate Co. at (936) 715-3043. We’ll show up when we say we will, give you a written price before any work starts, and stand behind the fix. If the gate doesn’t work right, nothing else about it matters.
